Band 7 Sample Answer
Dressing, nowadays, reflects the influence of international fashion trends as more and more people adopt styles that are popular worldwide. The main reason behind this is the strong impact of digital platforms that make these trends spread quickly. However, this development is largely negative because people are drifting away from traditional ways of dressing, ultimately embracing a uniformity that in my opinion is quite boring.
The root cause behind the adoption of global trends in routine wear is digital media that incessantly showcases brands trying to enter everyone’s wardrobe. Fashion houses, such as Zara and H&M have expanded rapidly through promotional activities on Instagram, Facebook and other media that reach households in almost every nation. As these styles appear repeatedly in people’s social media feeds, they gradually become accepted and imitated, especially by the younger generation, and this is clearly reflected in the way people dress today.
Despite its popularity, this development is eroding the traditional ways of dressing. In many nations, cultural attire is now worn only on special occasions, while global styles dominate daily life. In India, for example, many urban women prefer Western outfits over traditional sarees, which threatens cultural uniqueness. Moreover, this shift is contributing to a growing uniformity in the way people dress. Diversity makes the world vibrant and interesting, but if everyone wears the same clothing, the richness of each region would slowly disappear. Young people in cities around the world often wear the same items, such as jeans, hoodies and branded sneakers. This growing uniformity sometimes make fashion itself feel repetitive and uninspiring.
To conclude, the rapid spread of international styles can be attributed to the influence of social media. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the growing preference for global fashion is leading to the erosion of traditional and unique styles that exist around the world, creating a uniformity that is quite uninteresting.
